Professional Training

We are the leading Australian training site in lifespan diagnostic autism assessment, for clinicians and researchers.
ADOS Training at La Trobe University
We offer training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule–2nd Edition (ADOS-2). Dr Kristelle Hudry is one of only few established local senior ADOS-2 trainers and, with other CAPTeam members, offers professional development every year for clinicians and researchers wanting to use this assessment in their practice and research. Our team has extensive clinical and research expertise using the ADOS-2 to identify signs of autism in infants and toddlers, and to make diagnostic decisions in children, teens, and adults. We also have considerable experience with use of the ADOS-2 in research for various purposes.
What is The ADOS-2?
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule–2nd Edition (ADOS-2) is a play- or conversation-based assessment of behaviours relevant to the diagnosis of autism, across the lifespan. The ADOS-2 is considered among the ‘gold-standard’ tools to support autism diagnostic decision-making. The ADOS-2 can be used with infants from as young as age 12-months, right through childhood and adulthood, and with people at all levels of communication/language and intellectual ability. For more details about the ADOS-2 assessment, see the US publisher Western Psychological Services (WPS), or regional distributors Pearson Clinical Australia and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

- Trainees do not need to bring their own ADOS-2 kit to training, but will need access to a kit and/or manual for their own use after training.
- We only offer training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). We are not trainers on the Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised (ADI-R).
Who is ADOS-2 Training For?
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule–2nd Edition (ADOS-2) can be used by professionals in a range of disciplines and roles, who have had training in how to use it (including both administration and scoring) and how to interpret the behaviours and scores of assessed participants.
The most common attendees of our training are:
- Allied-health professionals (e.g., Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists)
- Medical professionals (e.g., Pediatricians, Psychiatrists)
- Researchers working in lifespan autism-related research
What our ADOS-2 Training Involves
Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 training covers administration of ADOS-2 Modules 1-4, and foundational skills for scoring and interpreting the assessment. Trainees learn the administration protocols and start to fine-tune their observational skills for scoring the assessment. This training is typically conducted across a 4-day, in-person intensive, and includes hands-on practice of administration with volunteer children/adults.
Please note that our Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 Training begins with Module 1, for children aged 2.5 years and older. Separate training is needed for the ADOS-2 Toddler Module (for infants aged 12-30 months) and only open to people who have already completed the Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 training and gained post-training experience with use of Modules 1 and/or 2.
Length: Four-day intensive, mixed large-/small-group format (~20 trainees; 2-3 trainers).
After training: Certificate of Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 Training attendance and participation issued.
Indicative Cost: $2,000 (incl. GST)
ADOS-2 for Research training is run as an extension of Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 training (outlined above). Trainees attend the 4-day, in-person intensive and an additional research-focused session. Research trainees’ specific personal and project needs are taken into account, and activities for the additional session tailored accordingly, ensuring time for discussion on procedural and research design-related issues, as well as how to handle ADOS-2 data in research and publications.
Length: Four-day intensive, mixed large-/small-group format (~20 clinical + research trainees; 2-3 trainers). Additional session (half- to full day; usually immediately after the 4-day intensive), small-group format (researchers only) for additional practice and discussion; with 1-2 trainers.
After the Course: Certificate of ADOS-2 Training attendance and participation issued. Research trainees are also provided with materials for additional scoring practice, and individual feedback on their own ADOS-2 administration and scoring submission, and advice on how to achieve and maintain ‘research reliable’ standard.
Indicative Cost: $2,500 (incl. GST)
This training specifically covers administration and scoring of the ADOS-2 Toddler Module (for infants and toddlers aged 12-30 months).
Please note: We do not run ADOS-2 Toddler Module training regularly. Rather, we consider scheduling this based on expressed need and our capacity among other activities.
Please contact us regarding interest in Toddler Training: adostraining@latrobe.edu.au
The indicative format is a 1-2 day small-group intensive, with focus on administration and scoring (as distinct from Modules 1/2) and including hands-on practice (with volunteer infant/toddler).
Please note also: We will only accept professionals/researchers for ADOS-2 Toddler Module training if they have:
- Completed Standard (Clinical) ADOS-2 Training (or ADOS-2 for Research training) with us or another recognised training provider; AND
- Gained post-training experience with use of Modules 1 and/or 2.
Indicative Length: One- to two-day intensive, small-group format (5-10 trainees; 1-2 trainers).
After training: Certificate of ADOS-2 Toddler Module Training attendance and participation issued.
Indicative Cost:
$750 (incl. GST) for clinical use
$1,000 (incl. GST) for research use (additional fee for post-training assessment and individual feedback on administration and coding standard)
